Weekly Update // Pastor Will

  Hi friends,

As we continue in this season of Lent, I was encouraged by Durwood’s email last week about the Five Finger Prayer. It’s such a simple yet powerful way to engage in prayer, especially when we’re not sure what to say.

This past Tuesday, I traveled to Lakeland for a day of learning, connection, and worship with clergy from the Florida Conference. One of the key conversations at my table was about how we can help our congregations grow deeper in their understanding of God and His love. One pastor emphasized the importance of equipping people with practical tools—like the Five Finger Prayer—to strengthen their prayer lives. This is especially meaningful in Lent, a season of renewal and deepened commitment to Christ.

One thing I’ve realized is how easy it is to say, “I’ll pray more,” and then forget. I’ve found it helpful to set a specific time. My favorite verse is John 10:10, where Jesus says:

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." (NRSV)

So, I’m setting a reminder to pray at 10:10 AM each day. I encourage you to do the same—whether using your favorite verse reference or something similar to help keep you on track!

This Sunday in worship, we continue our Lenten series, The Cost of Love, as Pastor Durwood preaches from Mark 14 with the message “Jesus Thought of Us.” We’ll also hear briefly from Kevin Chaplin about his reconciliation work in South Africa, with a more in-depth presentation at the potluck following the services at 12(ish) PM in the Fellowship Hall.

We will have both worship services as usual:

  • Celebration/Contemporary at 9:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall

  • Traditional at 11:00 AM in the Sanctuary

Both will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook if you can’t join us in person.

I’m so blessed to be one of your pastors as we journey through this Lenten season together. Thanks be to God!
