Weekly Update// Pastor Chris

Dear Asbury Family,

We’re quickly approaching Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of the Lenten season. During the forty-day period of Lent, we journey with Jesus to the cross and anticipate the hope and promise of Easter.

Since serving as a pastor, it’s been my custom during Lent to preach through a series of sermons focused on the life and ministry of Jesus. You may recall that last year’s Lenten series looked at the seven “I AM statements” of Jesus in the Gospel of John (i.e., I am the bread of life, I am the light of the world, I am the gate for the sheep, I am the good shepherd, etc.). This year’s Lenten series, which is called “Including the Excluded,” is going to look at another Gospel, the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus’ heart beats for outsiders – the poor, the weak, the sick, the demon-possessed, tax collectors, and convicted criminals. I can’t wait for this sermon series to begin on Sunday, March 6. Until then, I encourage you to begin reading through the Gospel of Luke. I think you’ll be amazed by the unique portrait Luke paints of Jesus.

This Sunday (February 27), our Associate Youth Director, Noah Pullon, is going to be delivering the message. Noah’s sermon is going to focus on gifts. Specifically, he is going to talk about how God is calling us to use our gifts to support the ministry of the church. As many of you know, Noah is a college student at UCF where he is majoring in Engineering. He has a heart for youth and passion for seeing young people connect with the church. I trust that God will use Noah’s words to touch and inspire all of us. I know I’ve said this before, but I’m so proud to be part of a church that is committed to raising the next generation of leaders.

Don’t forget that our Ash Wednesday service will be on March 2 at 7PM in the sanctuary (the service will also be live-streamed). In addition, our Lenten Gatherings begin at noontime in the Fellowship Hall on March 2. My prayer is that these opportunities enrich your faith and usher you into the presence of the very One whose love was made known in Jesus, specifically through the cross and resurrection.

Enjoy the rest of your week, and I hope to see you on Sunday morning.

Blessings,

Chris
