Weekly Update // Pastor Chris
Dear Asbury Family,
I hope this message finds you well as we prepare for Tropical Storm Helene, which is expected to strengthen into a hurricane—and it may have already done so by the time you read this email, as I’m writing on Wednesday morning. Please note that our campus is closed today, and all activities for Thursday (including Coffee with the Pastor) are canceled; however, Sunday worship will proceed as planned. As a lifelong Floridian, I understand how unsettling hurricanes can be, so let’s keep one another in our thoughts and prayers during this time, checking in on those who may need extra support.
This Sunday, September 29, we will host a combined service at 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary, welcoming teachers, students, and families from Asbury Early Learning Center. Following the service, we invite everyone to join us for a potluck, so please bring a side dish or dessert to share!
We’re also excited to kick off a new sermon series titled "Revival: Faith as Wesley Lived It." Our bishop, Tom Berlin—who preached at Asbury earlier this year—has invited all churches in our conference to explore our Methodist heritage. This series, based on Pastor Adam Hamilton’s book, will delve into the origins of Methodism and highlight our core beliefs.
Pastor Will will share insights about life for the Wesley family in early 1700s Epworth, England, where Samuel Wesley served as rector (pastor) and Susanna Wesley homeschooled their children, instilling in them a deep love for Christ.
As we explore what makes Methodism unique, let’s remember that it is just one branch in the rich and diverse family tree of Christianity. Understanding our roots helps us grow deeper in our faith and appreciate the broader Christian tradition we all share.
Lastly, a quick reminder: the Rummage Sale is coming up, and next week is Recycling Week on our campus. You can find details about both events in the announcements section below, and I will highlight them during our combined service.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday. In the meantime, stay safe and take care!
Blessings,
Chris
