Weekly Update // Pastor Durwood
Friends,
Thank you so very much for the warm and gracious welcome you have extended to both Anne and myself. We are glad to share this connection with you for the next few months and look forward to getting to know you more and more.
We have already experienced the deep generosity of both the church staff, members, leaders, and friends of Asbury. Asbury has already found its way into our hearts.
We have important work ahead of us as we prepare for the appointment of your next senior pastor. During February the Cabinet of the Florida Conference, led by Bishop Berlin, will meet to do the work of appointments. I want to assure you that the process is bathed in bible study, prayer, and trust that the Holy Spirit is present in conversation and decision. I invite each of us to be in prayer for the person God is preparing right now to serve Asbury as Senior Pastor beginning July 1. During March the cabinet will again meet to further refine its work and project appointments throughout the conference. Announcement Sunday will be April 27th. In this in between time we will walk the journey together, fulfilling the call of Jesus to make disciples for the transformation of the world.
I look forward to our continued time together with anticipation and assurance that God is with us in all moments of life and that the Holy Spirit will guide our work together.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting opportunities to connect and grow together:
• United Methodist Men’s Breakfast – Next Saturday, February 1, at 7:30 AM - Join us in the Fellowship Hall for a hearty breakfast and a powerful message from Pastor Erwin Lopez. Pastor Erwin is the director of the Central Florida Wesley Foundation, a ministry we have been blessed by, and we’re thrilled to have him share with us. Don’t miss it!
• Charge Conference – Tuesday, February 4, at 7:00 PM - We’ll be hosting a charge conference in the Welcome Friends Room at Laity Council. There are a couple of important items we need to vote on as members, so we encourage everyone to attend if you can!
• Glow Party – Friday, February 7, from 6:00–7:30 PM - The Glow Party is a free event put on by our Children’s Director, Laura Malloy, and her team that takes over a lot of the church campus with games, dancing, snacks, prizes, and more. While it’s geared toward 6th grade and under, I assure you everyone has a great time. We’re kicking things off a little later this year so the glow can truly shine! This is a fun-filled event you won’t want to miss, so mark your calendars and bring the whole family.
It is a true joy to serve among you and I hope to see you Sunday morning in worship. Pastor Will will continue our journey into The Heart of God. His text is 2 Peter 3:9. We will explore the patience of God. Join us for our 9:30 Celebration/Contemporary Service or our 11:00 Traditional Service.
If you can’t join us in person, both services will be live streamed on YouTube and FaceBook.
P.S. Pastor Durwood would love it if someone could explain to him what the mural on the wall in the front lobby depicts.
In hope and assurance,
Durwood O. Foshee III
