Weekly Update// Pastor Chris
Dear Church Family,
Last Sunday, we began a new preaching/teaching series entitled “Disappointment with God.” In this 3-part series (based on a book of the same name by author Philip Yancey), we’re exploring the disappointments we sometimes carry in our relationship with God. In particular, we are focusing on three questions: 1) Is God hidden? 2) Is God silent? 3) Is God unfair? Last week we looked at the question of God’s hiddenness. This week we turn our attention to the question of God’s silence. If you’ve ever struggled with the apparent silence of God, especially in the face of suffering, be sure not to miss Sunday worship. As always, services are at 9:30am (contemporary) and 11am (traditional). You can worship in person or online. Additionally, since this Sunday is Mother’s Day, we will be sure to honor all moms and mom-like figures among us.
Speaking of honoring moms and mom-like figures, our United Methodist Women of Faith (UMWF) are hosting our “Fairies & Flowers, Mother, Daughter, Sister in Christ” Banquet tomorrow evening (Friday, May 6) at 6pm. I hope those of you who purchased tickets and plan to attend have a wonderful evening. I know Amanda (my wife) and Hannah (our 4-year-old daughter) are both looking forward to the event!
The very next morning (Saturday, May 7), our United Methodist Men will be hosting their monthly prayer breakfast. This month’s prayer breakfast speaker is Rev. Dr. Bob Bushong, who serves as the District Superintendent of the East Central District of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. In his program, Pastor Bob will share the things that are on his heart. All men are invited! We simply ask that you bring a few dollars to offset the cost of breakfast.
Trust me when I say there are a lot of other things happening in our church. In fact, just the other day, I said to Amanda, “There is so much going on at Asbury. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up!” It’s true that we are an active church with plenty of ways to serve and live out our faith.
I know I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again. I am thankful for the privilege of serving as one of your pastors and being on this journey with you. I hope you have a great rest of your week.
Blessings,
Chris
