Weekly Update// Pastor Chris
Dear Asbury Family,
Along with all of you, I’ve been watching the news updates regarding the projected descent of Hurricane Ian. As of this writing, Ian is in Western Cuba (we pray for our sisters and brothers there) and is expected to make landfall in Florida in the next day or so.
Therefore, our staff and leadership have made the decision to close the church office beginning this afternoon and to remain closed for the rest of this week. Along with this closure, all in-person meetings and programming have been canceled.
Barring any surprises, we will still plan to host weekend worship on Sunday, October 2 at 9:30am and 11am. (Pastor Will is going to close out our series on God's will.) Please know our prayers are with you in the coming days.
Some years ago, Ryan Stevenson released a song entitled “Eye of the Storm.” I find the lyrics especially fitting right now:
In the eye of the storm
You remain in control
And in the middle of the war
You guard my soul
You alone are the anchor
When my sails are torn
Your love surrounds me
In the eye of the storm
I don’t believe God causes hurricanes. (If he did, why would he only send them during hurricane season?) However, I do believe God is with us through the literal and figurative storms of life, and that his grace will ultimately work all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
If you’re feeling anxious and afraid, be assured that the One who calmed the wind and the waves (Mark 4:35-41) still calms storms, and brings peace and contentment to our hearts.
Be safe.
Blessings,
Chris
